In October 2006, the Panamanian citizens voted in favor of the ambitious Panama Canal expansion plan. The $ 5.2 billion plan will double the capacity of the current canal. The project will create more than 40,000 jobs and will guarantee the control of the interoceanic trade routes.
It is one of the safest countries for the tourists, according to the prestigious Pinkerton Intelligence Agency.

Panama is one of the most globalized countries of Latin America.

Agreements and treaties at bilateral and multilateral level have been signed with different countries.
